IRINGA

Iringa is a city in Tanzania located in the country's southern highlands, about 500 kilometers southwest of Dar es Salaam. It is the capital of the Iringa Region. Iringa is a major agricultural and commercial center and a popular tourist destination due to its proximity to Ruaha National Park and other natural attractions.

Iringa is a relatively small city with a population of around 200,000 people. The City has a pleasant climate, with average temperatures ranging from 16 to 25 degrees Celsius. Iringa is also a relatively safe city with a low crime rate.

  • Iringa Central Market: The Iringa Central Market is a large and colorful market where you can buy fresh produce, souvenirs, and other goods. Iringa Cultural Heritage Centre: The Iringa Cultural Heritage Centre is a museum that tells the story of the people of Iringa and their culture.
  • Gangilonga Rock: The Gangilonga Rock is a large rock that offers stunning views of the city and the surrounding countryside. Gangilonga means a speaking stone in Hehe language.
  • Isimila Stone Age Site: This is a pre-historic settlement inside the Iringa District. The site is home to the Middle Pleistocene archaeological site discovered in 1957. Large surface assemblages of later Acheulean lithics, including hand axes, cleavers, scrapers, and cores, have been found at the site.
  • Historical Cemetery: It is a cemetery for British and Commonwealth soldiers who died in World Wars. The cemetery is located on a hill overlooking the city and is a popular place for visitors to learn about the history of Iringa and the country.

  • Ruaha National Park: Ruaha National Park is the second largest park and one of the most popular national parks in Tanzania on the southern. The park hosts a lot of wildlife, including lions, elephants, giraffes, Zebras, leopards, cheetahs, lesser kudus, wild dogs, stripe jackals, bat-eared foxes, rocks-hyrax, velvet monkeys, yellow baboons, and buffalos. The Park is on the west of the city at a distance 130 kilometers from Iringa town. Also, the park has more than 500 species of birds.
  • Mikumi National Park: You can do a Safari to Mikumi National Park from Iringa Town. The distance from Iringa town to The Mikumi National Park is about 200 kilometers north of Iringa, and wildlife in this park includes lions, elephants, giraffes, Impalas, Elands, Gnus Buffalos, Leopards, zebras, and many others.
  • Udzungwa Mountains National Park: Udzungwa Mountains National Park is on the east of Iringa and is about 265 kilometers. This National Park is rich in biodiversity, and wildlife includes elephants, trees-hyrax, colobus monkeys, and reptiles. The park is also known for its beautiful scenery, including waterfalls and rainforests.
