RUVUMA

Ruvuma Region is one of Tanzania's 31 administrative regions. It is located in the southern part of the country, bordering Mozambique to the south, Lake Nyasa to the west, and the regions of Njombe and Morogoro to the north, Lindi and Mtwara to the east.

The Ruvuma region has an area of 63,669 square kilometers and over 1.4 million people population.

The Ruvuma region hosts many ethnic groups, including the Ngoni, Yao, Mpoto, Makonde, Nindi, Matengo, Nyasa, and Ndendeule. The Ruvuma region has national parks, including the Selous Game Reserve, the largest protected area in Africa.

The Ruvuma region is the most rural area, with agriculture being the main economic activity. The Ruvuma region also has mineral deposits, including coal, gold, and iron ore.

The capital of the Ruvuma region is the town of Songea, located about 900 kilometers from Dar es Salaam, the commercial capital of Tanzania.

Visit the Selous Game Reserve: The Selous Game Reserve is one of the largest protected areas in Africa and is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including lions, elephants, giraffes, and zebras.

Visit the Ruvuma River: The Ruvuma River is a major river that flows through the Ruvuma region. The river is a popular spot for swimming, fishing, and boating.

Visit the Mbinga District: The Mbinga District has waterfalls, including the Kiwira Waterfall,  Mbega Waterfall, and hot springs.

Visit the Tunduru District: The Tunduru District has national parks and game reserves, including the Nyerere National Park and the Kimbo Game Reserve.

Visit the Makonde villages: The Makonde people are known for their wood carvings. You can visit some of the Makonde villages in the Ruvuma region to see wood carvings and learn about Makonde culture.
